It’s not just weddings for us!
November 1, 2009
It’s that time of the year for military balls, seasonal family functions and company holiday parties. A few weddings dot the calendar to close 2009. 2010 brides and grooms are still in the hunt for that choice DJ and assorted wedding vendor. Now, though, AP is about to switch into full party gear.
Holiday parties are a different dynamic than weddings. Our vast experience helps us guide the party planners in designing their music theme and agenda for the night. Some know how to plan a party. Many need some direction. Many are once a year party planners from HR. We do it a couple 100 times a year.
Cocktail and dinner hours should portray a background, yet festive vibe. Some groups are a little more sensitive about traditional holiday music and seek to be politically correct. There’s so much music out there…appeasing without offending is easy for us to read and facilitate. We are always respectful of a group’s wishes.
Many groups have an exec who is comfortable with the mic. On some rare occasions, they might even have a personality that is a regular for company functions. No problem. We’re happy to share the mic. Otherwise, we’re quite comfortable handling announcements, raffles and rocking the party.
Dance music should generally include a wide mix of styles and genres played in small sets. We allow clients to make requests ahead of time. The real telling is the mood people are in the night of and as the party unfolds. Our clients trust us to use our ability to read a crowd and keep the energy “up” and, of course, keep people dancing. Requests are always welcome, but we suggest you allow us the discretion to choose what is appropriate to play and when. Afterall…we do this for a living. No one knows better what rocks a party than a professional DJ.
Our goal is a fun, memorable, rockin’ holiday ball, company party or family get-together for you and your guests. I’m sure this is what you want, too. Let’s make it happen!
Swimming with Sharks
August 14, 2009

So we took some time off on Wednesday (thx for the holiday present Mer) to visit some of nature’s beauty in our own backyard – La Jolla Cove.
We kayaked off La Jolla Shores beach to The Caves, snorkeled with sea lions, various bass, mackeral & baitfish and bright orange Garibaldi. Then we cruised back into shore, hiked down the beach, waded out a tad and swam with Leopard sharks. Very cool.
The Leopards were beautiful. Spotted, 4-5′ in length and looking for Mer. They swam thru us and around us – vy docile. The water was a little murky, but they were within a cpl of feet. Very cool. We felt like we could reach out & touch them. They actually brushed by us a cpl of times. We also saw rays and guitarfish squirming along the bottom.
Erin & Johnny’s Wedding
August 11, 2009
What a beautiful night on the bay at Admiral Kidd Club. Saturday night rocked from the close of the ceremony to Queen’s “You’re My Best Friend” to the evening ending “I’ve Gotta Feeling” by the Black Eyed Peas.
Pastor Clark VanWick was witty and warm. Photographer Heidi Schawel was a pleasure to work with again and I’m sure she rocked out the pix. Day-of coordinator Richelle Coto was a big help. We all worked well together!
The energy in the room was evident from the entrance of the bridal party. You knew it was gonna rock. Italian meets Latin meets retro 80’s meets hip-hop meets a few oldies and on and on…..Michael Jackson was a hit to say the least!
Erin and Johnny were a great couple and their friends and family rocked it, too. Lots of great requests on the night. It was a pleasure!!

Morning Glory Jazz Brunch
April 18, 2009
What a beautiful day at the St. Madeleine Sophie Center in El Cajon today (www.stmsc.org). Hundreds turned out for the Morning Glory Jazz Brunch, presenting the 4th Annual Great SMSC Frog Race.
Local restaurants and organizations shared tasty treats ranging from organic scrambled eggs with roasted salsa and micro cilantro to specialty donuts covered with a yummy toffee/sugary treat. Mer & Bob volunteered to help the NACE (National Association of Catering Executives) booth (www.SDNACE.org). Mimosas, Stone Pale Ale, melon gaspacho with vanilla, specialty coffees and loads of water were available to quench the thirst of the many in attendance.
The mission of St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center is to empower adults with developmental disabilities to discover, experience and realize their full potential as members of the greater community.
The Center is a fabulous facility complete with gardens and nursery, an aquatic center and, as we discovered, many crafts and garden accessories for sale. We’re told they raise and sell many plants, flowers and succulents to help generate funds for their Center programs. For more info, please visit www.stmsc.org or call 619-442-5129.
We had to leave early for our Saturday evening weddings, but it’s a great facility and cause. We hope they generated mucho bucks today! We hope we won the Frog Race grand prize of $10,000. We can’t wait to hear how they did!!
St. Vincent’s School Fundraising Auction & Wine Tasting
March 30, 2009
Saturday night, 3/28, St. Vincent’s School in Hillcrest staged their annual fundraising bash on the school grounds. 100’s turned out for the awesome auction, delicious food, extraordinary wine tasting and great music provided by yours truly – Artistic Productions.
Parents, patrons and school supporters generated thousands for the school and the kids of St. Vincent’s by participating in silent auctions, raffles and a rollicking live auction. Items ranged from gift baskets and gift certificates to surfboards and custom-made art created by the kids.
A great cause for great kids!
Weddings of Distinction
March 26, 2009
What a great time at Weddings of Distinction on this past Tuesday afternoon. The Prado at Balboa Park, www.balboaparkweddings.com, really stepped up and showed off their property very nicely. Weddings of Distinction, www.weddingsdistinction.com, is proud they are a member of this San Diego networking group.
Monthly meetings allow the group to meet and bond, socialize and network, share new marketing and advertising ideas and refer business to one another.
What a diverse collection of some of the preeminent pros in the local San Diego wedding community.
Green Party
March 19, 2009
Attended the Green Party Tuesday night at The New Children’s Museum in downtown San Diego sponsored by www.2planitgreen.com. What a perfect day (St. Patty’s Day) to celebrate “Going Green.”
This eco-conscious party was pretty cool. Cool museum venue, amibient-trance music, wonderful food and beverages and lots of nice, fun people. Good time. Good cause!
